History

--Between Euforate River and sea, at the northern port of Syria, Aleppo locates.

--Aleppo at current location has three existences:

1. Aleppo in Stone Age 2. Ancient Aleppo 3. Modern Aleppo

--Since its first Kingdom (Yamhadh) until present, it has passed by great civilized and cultural stages and did its role to human civilization.

--Most resources mentioned that the first builder of Aleppo was Balokosh Al-Mosely "Ashorian King", But until now no one can confirm who was the Aleppo's builder but oldest confirmative mention about Aleppo was in age of Rimosh Ben Sargon Al-Accandy (2530-2515 BC).

--During Christianity period, Aleppo became a great religious central and a big parish, its people were employed in high religious position.

--After Hercules' defeat in Yarmok Battle (636 AD), Islamic conquest extended to Aleppo and it became one of Arab Islamic cities.

--For first time since "Hissien age", Aleppo became capital of Hamadaniah state (944 AD) under Saif-Al-dawlah's rule -who was his poet Al-Motanaby- After get ridding of Fatimy's occupation. City's influence included northern Syria, Untikia, Toruos's boundary and a part of Iraq.

--The great disaster was when Nakfor Fokus (962 AD) rushed into Aleppo and burned houses, killed women and children and destroyed everything. Another stroke from Nakfor (967 AD) after Saif Al-Dawlah's Death ended Hamdaniah State.

In 11124 AD, crusaders attacked Aleppo.In 1260 AD, Magol rushed into Aleppo and destroyed the city.

In 1516 and after Mamalik's defeat by Ottoman, Aleppo became Ottoman State that its ruler was of high standing as minister.

--Commercial activity was growing steadily especially during Ottoman rule as Aleppo made wide commercial relationships with Europe (France, England, Italy) and they stayed in "Khanat" (Khan Al-Banadika, Khan Al-Jomrok, Khan Al-Harir,...).

--Aleppo preceded all Ottoman city even Istanbul (Ottoman capital) as the central market for the all east and international ways node between Arab Gulf, Istanbul and the East of Middle Sea.

--The first printer entered Arab world was into Aleppo and holly Bible was the first book has been printed before the entering of printers to Egypt by Napoleon's attack.

Aleppo, Kings loved it, Aristotle lived in it, Julian King called it pearl, and it was mentioned twice in Shakespeare's poetry.

Aleppo Citadel

--Aleppo Citadel is one of largest World's citadels, locates at center of ancient city. It has said that its builder was Seleucus Nikatour but what have been found of ancient monuments confirm that citadel's hill was important religious center, it became city acropolis in Hellenic age, then it became an impregnable Islamic castle.

--The Citadel locates at a high hill overlooking city and has deep trench -filled with water at war - and high walls around it.

--King Gazie iben Saladin fortified the citadel then Magol destroy it extremely and burned Abraham's shrine until Saif Al-Dien repaired it .

--It had ten mosques, an oven, bathes, about hundred houses. But, the earthquake in 1821AD destroyed most buildings. therefore, its inhabitants left it to city.

--Now Aleppo citadel is considered symbol of city and University of Aleppo made it as official logo.
